Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of the role and significance of the
material and technical base in the development of the cotton industry in the Surkhan-Sherabad
region. The study examines the efficiency of new technical tools, particularly cotton harvesters,
high-capacity tractors, and agrotechnical service systems introduced to the region within the
framework of the Soviet government's agrarian policy during that period. A comparative analysis of qualitative indicators of machinery utilization is conducted, taking into account the unique
natural and climatic conditions of the Surkhan-Sherabad oasis, soil salinity levels, and
topographical features.
The article highlights both the positive outcomes of mechanization processes in increasing
cotton yields and the shortcomings in technical maintenance, personnel qualifications, and the
negative consequences of extensive development. The research findings provide insights into the
economic history of the region and allow for drawing conclusions from the historical experience
of technical modernization in agriculture.
