TYPES OF EQUIVALENCE IN MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY TRANSLATION: FULL, PARTIAL, AND FUNCTIONAL EQUIVALENTS

Abstract

The translation of medical terminology represents a significant linguistic and
practical challenge in the field of medicine, where terminological precision, semantic equivalence,
and communicative clarity are considered essential criteria. This article provides a scholarly
analysis of equivalence types encountered in the process of translating medical terms from English
into Uzbek, namely full, partial, and functional equivalence. The study is based on data drawn
from international medical classifications, specialized dictionaries, and clinical texts, and employs
a comparative approach to examine the semantic, morphological, and pragmatic features of
medical terms. The findings indicate that functional and partial equivalents are widely used in
Uzbek medical terminology, which highlights the relevance of consistency and standardization
issues in medical translation
