MUNZHIM — ONE OF THE BUKHARA JADIDS

Abstract

This article analyzes the life, creative legacy, and role in the Jadidism
movement of Abdulvohid Burhonov (Munzim), a Jadid intellectual, enlightened poet, and public
figure who was active in the early 20th century in the territories of Bukhara and Turkestan. The
study sheds light on Munzim's poetic creativity, his educational and propaganda activities, his
contributions to establishing the New Method schools, and his role in the Jadid literary
environment. Additionally, the similarities and differences in his work compared to major Jadid
figures like Sadriddin Ayniy and Abdurauf Fitrat are analyzed. The article reviews scholarly
research on Munzim’s activities conducted during the Soviet and post-Soviet periods, establishing
his place and historical significance in the Jadid literary movement. The research findings show
that Munzim’s work was an important link in the development of the enlightenment-propagandist
trend in Jadid literature.
