USING THE DEBATE METHOD TO DEVELOP ENGLISH SPEAKING FLUENCY IN STUDENTS OF NON-PHILOLOGICAL MAJORS

Abstract

This article analyzes the significance of using the debate method in English
language lessons for students in non-philological fields to develop speaking fluency. The concept
of fluency is discussed based on the views of contemporary language teaching specialists and
linguists, and the effectiveness of the debate method in promoting spontaneous speech, rapid
expression of ideas, and reduction of pauses and hesitations is justified. The study employed
experimental methods, observation, audio analysis, and questionnaires. The results demonstrate
that the debate method is an effective pedagogical tool for enhancing students' speaking fluency.
