A METHODOLOGY FOR DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ CREATIVE COMPETENCE IN APPLIED ARTS THROUGH PROJECT-STUDIO LEARNING

The article presents theoretical and methodological foundations for developing
students’ creative competence in applied arts through project-studio learning. Creative
competence is defined as an integration of motivational-value, artistic-conceptual, divergentideational, technological-practical, reflective-evaluative and communicative-presentational
components. A project cycle is proposed that involves studying national applied-art examples,
identifying a problem, generating ideas, creating sketches and prototypes, experimenting with
materials, studio critique, revision and public presentation. Authentic assignments, pedagogical
conditions, an analytic assessment rubric and a sample instructional module are developed
