THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR DEVELOPING MEDICAL SPEECH COMPETENCE IN FOREIGN STUDENTS
Keywords:
medical speech competence, foreign students, professionally oriented language teachingAbstract
This article analyzes the theoretical and methodological foundations for forming
and developing the speech competence of foreign students studying medicine. The essence of the
concept of "medical speech competence" and its structural components (linguistic,
communicative, professional-terminological, and intercultural) are revealed [1; 2]. Based on the
competence-based approach, communicative methodology, and the theories of teaching language
for specific purposes (LSP – Language for Specific Purposes) [3; 4], a step-by-step model for
40 foreign students' acquisition of medical speech is proposed. The results of the study contribute to
improving language teaching methodology in medical higher education institutions.
