Abstract

STEAM is a developing educational model of how the traditional academic
subjects (silos) of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics can be structured into
a framework by which to plan integrative curricula. It includes reviews of the epistemologies of
general and discipline specific developments in conjunction with the individual discipline’s
standards, as related to integrative education. The article discusses the possibilities of STEAM
technologies in general secondary education. The advantages of using these technologies in
relation to underachieving students are analyzed. The role of STEAM in identifying the potential
of students is described. Examples of the application of this approach in education are given. The
article discusses several pedagogical methods and tools that can be effective for applying the
STEAM approach among the considered category of students.
